Wow, I hadn't read the bit about Spotlight when I first skimmed this post. The stuff you're suggesting sounds insane. But, I guess, "here's to the crazy ones," right? Such an advanced search solution never really occurred to me, but that could be absolutely awesome. I suppose it would be something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_neural_network

I don't know how viable or valuable the "OS X Personal Edition" idea is, but I agree it would be cool and would stir up a bit of attention for Apple.

I absolutely agree iWork should be included with all Macs. Talk about value added. Surely, they aren't making enough money on iWork to justify its non-inclusion. Apple isn't a software company, they're all about the total package, and iWork could make the total package that much more complete and desirable.

The location manager idea thing is pretty cool, and something the GNOME/freedesktop.org dudes have been working on the last 6 months in the form of geotagging integration. They've got a nice API called GeoClue, and a bunch of ideas on that wiki page for applications that could be built. My favourite is the location tied into an interactive timeline/track of events, and search integration with that.

It wouldn't be difficult for Apple to integrate a GPS into their laptop line. I'd be concerned about power consumption though.

Oh, and another "sense" you missed from the Macbook is "hearing" the wireless network. You might want to check out MarcoPolo. It does a lot of what you're talking about. :-)

The Clutter folk have a couple of simple technology demos of a Surface-like UI. It would be pretty easy to integrate that into Beagle/Tracker and build the interface you've mocked up. I assume that if the Open Source world can build something like this, it shouldn't be difficult for Apple to copy it.

On Apple/fanbois making fun of Windows: as an outsider it's pretty funny to watch. The Linux community was a bit like that up until a few years ago until we pretty much grew out of it. I wonder how long it will take Apple?
